Sarlamkai is a very popular traditional dance of Mara people living in Southern part of Mizoram and western part of Myanmar. Locally, it is known as 'Sawlakia' and Sarlamkai is Mizo-Lushei translation of Mara word Sawlakia.
Since, the word 'Sarlamkai' is simply a translated version of the original Mara word 'Sawlakia', the concern authorities were informed not to use the word Sarlamkai to describe about Sawlakia dance. Lately, everyone seems to be using Sawlakia for this word.
